Hunter Haas shot a nine-under-par 63 to take a one-shot lead after the first round of the Funai Classic in Orlando.

Haas posted nine birdies on the Palm course, the easier of the two layouts used for the event at Disney World.

He is one shot clear of Steve Lowery, Mark Calcavecchia, Ryan Moore and JJ Henry, while Tiger Woods is five shots back after a four-under 68.

England's Justin Rose shot a 67, while Greg Owen and Brian Davis shot 69 and 72 respectively and Philip Price a 71.

Woods needs just under US$1m to break Vijay Singh's single-season record set last year, with two tournaments left after this one.

Singh, the winner of the event in 2003, was unhappy with his iron play as he battled to a 69 on Magnolia, where Robert Damron's 65 was the best score.
