World number one Annika Sorenstam, the tournament host, put herself in strong contention going into the final round of the Scandinavian TPC. Sorenstam thrilled the Malmo crowd with a third round 67 for four under par 212 and a one-shot lead.
She birdied the last two holes to hold a narrow advantage over Norway's Solheim Cup hopeful Suzann Pettersen.
"I don't know if it is rude to win your own tournament, but I'll certainly be trying to do that on Sunday," she said.
French player Gwladys Nocera, who is still holding onto the seventh and final automatic selection spot for the Solheim Cup, three-putted the 18th for a bogey and a 71 but is still well-placed in third.
Scotland's Catriona Matthew was the leading British player on five over after a 73 and lies one ahead of England's Trish Johnson.
