England's Lee Westwood carded a respectable third-round 73 to give himself an outside chance going into the final day of the US Open. Westwood is six shots off leader Retief Goosen but seventh overall alongside Sweden's Peter Hedblom, who added a 70 to his tournament-low 66 on Friday.
Luke Donald faded out of the picture after a four-over-par 74 left him six over par overall.
Spain's Sergio Garcia is one shot better after a disappointing 75.
Westwood, bidding to become the first European winner of the tournament for 35 years, bogeyed two of the last three holes but has refused to throw in the towel.
"I know I am quite capable of shooting 68 or 67," said Westwood.
"Who knows, one over, even par may have a really good chance - in fact, will have a really good chance."
Compatriot Donald carded six bogeys in his round while Garcia had five bogeys and no birdies.
