Woods says his friend O'Meara should have been chosen |
Tiger Woods says Mark O'Meara should have been named US captain for the 2006 Ryder Cup instead of Tom Lehman. "Tom is a good choice, but he would have been a good choice for America four years from now," said Woods.
"Timing wise, I just thought this was Mark's only chance. He'll be 51 by the time the next one comes around."
Woods also said he thought close friend O'Meara should have been made captain for the clash at the K Club in County Kildare because of his Irish heritage.
Woods added that it was not the first time that the USPGA had made the wrong decision about Ryder Cup captaincy.
"They skipped Larry Nelson in 1997 and gave it to Tom Kite," said Woods.

"Then they tried to rectify a wrong by putting Nelson back into the bid for this one but it was already too late because he's out of touch with the all the players."
Lehman insists he is not troubled by Woods' comments.
"Tiger and I get along just fine," he said. "He's upset with the PGA of America that his buddy is not the captain and when I see him I will say 'I understand.'
"I don't take it personally."
