Upbeat Woods looks to the future
Tiger Woods
Former world number one Tiger Woods says his game is showing signs of resurgence despite finishing the season with just one PGA Tour victory.

Woods saw Vijay Singh overtake him in the world rankings, but said he was optimistic about next season.

"The season has been disappointing. I didn't win a major but I've made great strides in my game which I'm really excited about," said Woods.

"I'm putting the pieces together and they're starting to come together."

Woods added: "Now I just need to build more consistency and to do it week-in and week-out and day-in and day-out."

The 28-year-old has struggled off the tee all season, with his only victory coming in the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in February.

I have to keep building on this for next year
Tiger Woods
He came close to victory in the final tournament of the season in Atlanta, but saw a four-shot third-round lead slip away to Retief Goosen.

"It was a very successful week as far as progressing in the right direction, but ultimately I'm very disappointed," said Woods.

"I felt like it was a golden opportunity to win a tournament.

"But my finishes over the past three, four months have been pretty good.

"I have to keep building on this as I go overseas and then finish it here in the States and keep building on this for next year."

Woods, who married Swedish model Elin Nordegren in October, has not won a strokeplay title in 20 attempts, his longest drought since turning professional in 1996.
