Former Open champion Sandy Lyle has declared his interest in captaining Europe at the 2006 Ryder Cup. Skipper Bernhard Langer is expected to step down after leading his side to a record 18-9 win over the USA.
"There are a lot of European players who could be Ryder Cup captains but my name could be in the tumbler to be drawn out," said Lyle.
"I don't know how it is decided - it is all down to the committee and what they want from their captain."
Cup hero Colin Montgomerie is among the possible successors to Langer for the next event in Ireland, along with Thomas Bjorn, Ian Woosnam and Nick Faldo.
"Thomas Bjorn is a possibility although he is still playing serious golf at the moment," Lyle told Scotland Today.
"He would be a good captain and has helped out Langer as vice-captain as well."
