Furyk v Howell
(USA won 6&4) Jim Furyk went on a birdie charge to trounce European rookie David Howell 6&4 in Sunday's Ryder Cup singles. Furyk, stung by three defeats in his previous matches, showed his intentions from the start as he went ahead after a dazzling approach on the first green.
The 34-year-old American claimed four birdies as he sauntered five clear after just eight holes.
Howell, who enjoyed a winning fourballs debut, pulled one back at the 11th but always trailed the 2003 US Open winner.
