Garcia/Westwood ease home
Toms/Furyk v Garcia/Westwood
(Europe won 5&3)

Sergio Garcia is watched by partner Lee Westwood
Europe's Sergio Garcia and Lee Westwood put on a superb show to beat American pair David Toms and Jim Furyk 5&3 in their fourballs at Oakland Hills.

Spanish star Garcia won the first hole with a birdie from 12 feet, and the duo went on to surge four up at the turn.

The Americans finally won a hole at the 11th but the inspired Europeans struck back at the next two to go five clear.

Furyk won a hole back but the Europeans were unstoppable and sealed victory at the 15th when the Americans conceded.

Westwood was delighted with the way his partnership with Garcia worked.

The Englishman said: "When one of us was out of contention, the other was looking at a birdie or par at worst. We have a great combination - we play well together.

"We feel comfortable on the greens. They are in excellent condition and we used teamwork to read them."

Garcia added: "Getting a birdie at the first was huge. It was a great start. I would like to thank Colin Montgomerie because I saw his putt on the big screen earlier on and it gave me a great read."
