Joey Sindelar grabbed a one-shot lead after the opening round of the weather-hit Canadian Open on Friday. As the Glen Abbey course recovered from Hurricane Frances, Sindelar edged ahead with a 66, two shots clear of world number one Vijay Singh and Mike Weir.
Singh grabbed five birdies and an eagle on his back nine to complete a remarkable three-under-par 68.
Craig Barlow, Billy Andrade and DJ Brigman all share second spot, after opening round 67's.
With more than half the field completing their opening rounds on Friday, the players face a long, gruelling day on a course that has undergone major changes.
Since Glen Abbey last hosted the event in 2000, 15 holes have been altered, making the course longer and tighter.
Officials do not expect to make up the backlog created by a five-hour rain delay on Thursday, with some players not scheduled to begin their second rounds until early evening.
