Vijay Singh moved closer to the world number one ranking by extending his lead over Tiger Woods to three shots at the Deutsche Bank Championship. The Fijian, who started the third round with a two-shot lead, posted a three-under-par 68 to move to 14 under par.
Woods, who has held the number one ranking for 264 weeks, shot a 69 to finish at 11 under, in second place.
If Singh wins on Monday will take over the top spot from the American and push his year's earnings over $7m.
He sank three birdies to make the turn at three under par, but had to wait until the final hole for his next birdie to cancel out a dropped shot on the 14th.
"You have got to be very patient," Singh said. "That's the key.

"You just go out there and play hole-by-hole, take your time and get settled in. That's what I do. I don't rush myself." Singh has posted 30 top-10 finishes in his last 49 events, claiming nine victories in the past two seasons, including five this year.
Woods won five tournaments in three consecutive seasons from 2001, but since his triumph at last year's WGC American Express Championships in Atlanta, he has only one matchplay tournament victory to his name.
The pair will play together during the final round on Monday.
"I'm just going to go out there and try to win the golf tournament," Singh added.
"Fortunately, Tiger is in my group and I can see everything happening."
Woods is also relishing the confrontation.
"Vijay's been playing extremely well over the last couple of years and I think it should be a lot of fun to go out and compete against him," he said.
"I think it will just be a blast."
Bill Haas shot an even-par 71 to stay in the hunt at nine under, five behind Singh, with Japan's Shigeki Maruyama a further shot back.
Jay Williamson and defending champion Adam Scott are tied for fifth at seven under.
