Two-time major winner John Daly says media pressure for him to be included in this year's Ryder Cup cost him a place in the US team. Daly is friends with team captain Hal Sutton but was not awarded one of his wild card places, which went to Jay Haas and Stewart Cink.
"Thank the media and fans for kind of pushing Hal to pick me, but I think it kind of irritated him," he said.
"I think pressuring Hal like that, he may have turned away from it."
Daly made little attempt to hide his disappointment at being left out, saying: "I wish I'd been picked.
"There was some talk during the USPGA, I don't know who said it, maybe it might have been (US golfer) Brandel Chamblee said: 'John doesn't fit the mould of team golf'.

"I think I do. I think I did well in the Dunhill Cup. I think I would be a great team player." He also made it clear that he was not entirely supportive of Sutton's picks, and thought they may tip the balance the way of the European team.
"Nothing against Jay Haas but Jay's been there before and hasn't fared too well.
"I think Scott Verplank would have been a really good pick, he's playing really good golf," he said.
"We are pretty strong but I think it's going to be close. Europe have some young guns that fear nothing."
