Denmark's Thomas Bjorn thinks Europe's selection process for the Ryder Cup team is still flawed. This year, five players each qualify from a world rankings point list and an Order of Merit list compiled from last September to the end of August.
But Open runner-up Bjorn said: "I think we've got it wrong.
"It should be the top five on the rankings, which are worked out on an average of points over two years rather than an accumulation of points."
Two-time Ryder Cup star Bjorn is currently outside the automatic qualification positions on either list.
And he added: "If I was deciding the side I'd want eight to come off the world rankings and four wild cards."
To make his team up to 12, European captain Bernhard Langer will make two captains picks for the 14-19 September clash with America at Oakland Hills, Michigan.
Previously, the team was picked from the 10 top-ranked players in Europe, but three years ago Spain's Sergio Garcia needed a wildcard despite being the highest-ranked European on the world standings.
