David Howell was a Walker Cup winner with GB&I's amateurs and makes his debut in the professional version of the matchplay competition with the US. The 29-year-old was one of the most consistent performers in Europe in 2003, finishing one place and an agonising 250 outside the top 15.
Howell is still searching for his third Tour win after victories in Australia and Dubai in 1998 and 1999.
Two Seve Trophy caps, and seven top 10s in 2004 should stand him in good stead.
Howell collected two-and-a-half points out of three in the 1995 Walker Cup victory over a Tiger Woods-led United States at Royal Porthcawl.
And he will relish another crack at the transatlantic rivals, this time as a well-respected European Tour professional.
Did you know? David Howell missed out on playing in the Seve Trophy in 2002 after breaking his arm jogging.
