Jacquelin eyes maiden title
R3 LEADERBOARD
Raphael Jacquelin
-11 Raphael Jacquelin (Fra), Nobuhito Sato (Jpn)
-10 Jonathan Lomas (GB)
-9 Roger Chapman (GB), Brian Davis (GB), Joakim Haeggman (Swe), Anders Hansen (Den), David Howell (GB), Jose Manuel Lara (Spa), Marcel Siem (Ger)
Raphael Jacquelin moved closer to his first European title after a 65 gave him a share of the Qatar Masters lead with Nobuhito Sato on 11 under par.

The Frenchman posted four birdies on his way out and finished strongly with two more at the 16th and 17th.

Sato, winner of nine titles on the Japanese Tour, eagled the 10th in a 67.

Jonathan Lomas had eight birdies in his 66 to claim third, David Howell is in a group of seven one further back, but Ian Woosnam dropped out of contention.

Jacquelin secured five top-10 finishes on the Tour last season, including three third places in five weeks.

In 29 events he missed only five cuts and finished 20th in the Order of Merit, his best to date.

The nearest he has so far come to victory in Europe came in 2001 when he finished a shot behind Peter O'Malley in the English Open at the Forest of Arden.

Overnight leader Woosnam began the day badly with a dropped shot at the first, and though he birdied the next, another stroke went at the third.

He could only finish with a level-par 72 and is five shots behind the leaders.
Germany's Marcel Siem had the day's most explosive burst of scoring, with eight birdies in 10 holes

Sandy Lyle birdied the opening hole to move only one shot off the lead, but had two bogeys on the way out, and three more in the final four holes ended the popular Scotsman's chances.

For Lomas, it was a remarkable turnaround from his first round 76, which left only 10 of the 150 field behind him.

Germany's Marcel Siem had the day's most explosive burst of scoring, with eight birdies in 10 holes during his 64 that leaves him just two behind.

Tour stalwart Roger Chapman, the 44-year-old veteran of over 500 European Tour events who won his first tournament at the 472nd attempt four years ago, is another in the group at nine-under.

He posted six birdies in the opening 12 holes and parred the remainder for a round of 66.
