Nilsmark is to retain her captaincy for the 2005 Solheim Cup |
Sweden's Catrin Nilsmark is to retain her captaincy of the European team for the 2005 Solheim Cup. Nilsmark captained Europe to a 17-10 victory over the USA last year in Sweden despite being on crutches.
"Catrin proved to be an inspirational figure at Barseback instilling a fantastic fighting spirit," said Ian Randall, ladies tour chief executive.
The tour also announced that Sweden will again host the event in 2007, with Barseback the most likely venue.
But the name of the venue for the matches will not be confirmed until the summer, said Randall.
The new Wales National course near Cardiff had once been considered a favourite to stage the event.
But because the 2003 cup was such a huge success, attracting record crowds which almost topped 100,000 for the tournament week as Europe recorded the biggest win in the event's history, organisers have decided to return to Sweden.
The next Solheim Cup will be held between 9-11 September in 2005 at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Indiana.
Nancy Lopez will lead the Americans, who have never lost on home soil.
