Sorenstam has dominated women's golf for the last three years |
Annika Sorenstam has targeted an unprecedented Grand Slam of women's golf majors in the same calendar year. The Swede claimed two majors last year, taking her total to six, and has won 48 titles in ten years on the LPGA Tour.
Aside from Sorenstam, only Karrie Webb, Juli Inkster, Pat Bradley, Mickey Wright, and Louise Suggs have won all four tournaments.
"The Slam is a dream of mine and I hope it will happen," Sorenstam said ahead of the Australian Masters.
Sorenstam is on Australia's Gold Coast for the event which begins at Royal Pines on Thursday.
Webb is also in the field, along with Britain's Laura Davies and US Open champion Hilary Lunke.
With the first major of the season, the Nabisco Championship, a month away, Sorenstam said: "This will put me in tournament mode."
There were five inches of rain that flooded the course on Tuesday but Davies was not concerned.
"I love Royal Pines and the rain will suit the long hitters," said Davies, a three-time winner of the event.
