Jimenez also won the Mallorca Classic late last year |
Miguel Angel Jimenez is keeping his feet on the ground after winning the Johnnie Walker Classic, his second Ryder Cup ranking win of the season. The pony-tailed 40-year-old claimed the 166,660 top prize by two shots from Thomas Bjorn.
But despite being in a strong position to claim an automatic Ryder Cup spot, he is not getting ahead of himself.
"The Ryder Cup is a target, but my principal one is to play the best I can every week," Jimenez said.
"September is September and we are in February. You have to concentrate round by round."
Jimenez also had words of consolation for Bjorn. The Dane led from the first day in Bangkok until the fifth last hole when he found water off the tee.
When he made a carbon copy mistake off the 17th the Dane's fate was sealed, and brought back memories off his 2003 Open loss when he let a three-shot lead slip in the final four holes.
"You always feel sorry for the one behind," Jimenez said.
Bjorn, who described Jimenez's performance as "magnificent", played down his mistakes in the closing holes.

"I am good at dealing with disappointments. I play golf to win and in the last 16 months I've let quite a few slip through my hands," he said. "Fortunately I've had a win in there (the Dunlop Phoenix tournament in Japan in November), so I know I can do it."
Nick Faldo, like Jimenez, a veteran looking to make a Ryder Cup comeback in September, was pleased with his performance at the Alpine Golf and Sports Club.
"I'm really pleased. I played really well, had a good mental focus and learnt some things about my swing," he said.
