Monty keeps winning streak alive
Colin Montgomerie
I am leaving it later and later, it's getting difficult
Colin Montgomerie on maintaining his winning run
Colin Montgomerie extended his record of at least one title win every year since 1993 by capturing the Macau Open in Asia.

The 40-year-old improved his woeful play-off record in the process.

He beat Australian Scott Barr at the first extra hole after they had finished level on 11 under par.

Montgomerie, who has had an otherwise disappointing season, birdied the final hole to force sudden death, then birdied it again to deny Barr.

The Scot had lost seven and halved one of his eight play-offs in Europe and lost the 1994 US Open and 1995 US PGA in extra holes.

"That is my ninth play-off and I have only won two of them, my other one was at Sun City against Ernie Els of all people," said Montgomerie, who shot a closing round 68 to make up a three-shot overnight deficit.

"I have kept the winning streak alive. I am leaving it later and later, it's getting difficult.

"October is too late. I would rather win in January."
