Westwood last won at the World Match Play in October 2000

The 30-year-old Englishman shot a final round of 66 to finish 19-under-par, three shots clear of Germany's Alex Cejka.

Seven birdies in the closing 10 holes took Westwood clear of the field, with Andrew Coltart, Paul Casey, Gary Evans, Raphael Jacquelin and Peter Hedblom tied for third in 15 under.

Ernie Els and Thomas Bjorn were eight shots behind the winner on 11 under.

"This is a big moment. I'm fairly emotional," said Westwood.

"I just enjoy being in the lead with my name on the leaderboard and in front of people. I've worked hard for three years to get it back."

Westwood's last victory was at the Cisco World Match Play in October 2000, a year which saw him win seven titles and become European number one.

A dreadful run of form followed that left him ranked 215th in the world.

Westwood began the final round in Munich three strokes behind Robert Karlsson, but the Swede dropped back with a double bogey at the 10th.

And Westwood moved into the lead for the first time when his second shot rolled to within 18 inches of the hole at the 16th hole.

Two more birdies followed to wrap up a 15th European Tour title for the former world number four.
