Denmark's Iben Tinning followed up her maiden victory in the Irish Open last week by winning the La Perla Italian Open on Sunday.

Tinning was paired with local favourite Silvia Cavalleri in the final round and the Dane shot a 70 to edge win by a stroke.

Tinning recorded a 14 under par 278 to relegate Cavalleri, who finished with a 72, to the runner's-up spot for the second time in three years.

New Zealand's Gina Scott was third on nine under after a 69.

Samantha Head, the 1999 champion, also shot 69 to finish fourth with fellow Briton Trish Johnson, who carded a 71, and Sweden's Asa Gottmo.

The contest was always a two-horse race and at first it looked as though Cavalleri, who led by a stroke overnight, was going to make up for her previous disappointment.

When the Italian birdied the first and Tinning dropped a shot she opened up a three-stroke lead.

But the tide turned as Tinning picked up a hat-trick of birdies from the fifth and Cavalleri bogeyed the eighth.

Tinning went out in 34 to her opponent's 36, moving into a lead she never relinquished.

"I waited seven years to get my first victory, so to win twice in two weeks is amazing," said the delighted 28-year-old from Copenhagen.

"But it's a great feeling. Now I've got a week off to go home and celebrate."

Warwickshire's Nicola Moult and Lancashire's Kirsty Taylor, in joint eighth, were the other Britons to finish in the top 10 and collect Solheim Cup points.

Tinning now has an excellent chance of joining Europe's team to defend the Solheim Cup at Interlachen in Minnesota in September.

She has moved into joint-third place in the rankings and also heads the Order of Merit.
