![]() | Wednesday, 6 March, 2002, 12:03 GMT Rose wins monthly award ![]() Rose endured a long wait for his maiden title England's Justin Rose has been named the Asprey & Garrard Golfer of the Month for January. Spaniard Jose Maria Olazabal won the February award. Rose, who also won the award exactly 12 months ago, was honoured after his maiden European Tour victory in the Dunhill championship.
Victory in Johannesburg ended a long wait for Rose since turning professional at the age of 17. The 21-year-old Englishman then added a second title in three weeks when he won the Nashua Masters at the Wild Coast Sun Country Club. "I am delighted with this news and it is far more rewarding to accept it for winning the Dunhill championship," said Rose. Olazabal was recognised for his triumph in the Accenture Match Play and the Buick Invitational. Both men earn �1,000 in charity donations for the Golf Foundation. |
