Faldo eyes brighter future
A final round 70 gave Faldo his best finish of the year
Faldo on his way to third place in Singapore
Nick Faldo believes he is at last approaching the form that will bring his first tournament title in five years.

The 44-year-old Englishman, who has won six majors, last topped a final-round leaderboard at the 1997 Nissan Open in Los Angeles.

But after finishing third in the Singapore Masters on Sunday he is convinced he just needs "that little bit more confidence" to end his victory drought.

He said: "The big breakthrough is going to be when I can stand up and know what I am going to do - I mean really know what I am going to do.

I created a lot of chances, and that is the bottom line - all in all, it was a good week

"That will be a big step forward.

"If I can get that in the next couple of weeks, then I've got to believe I will be knocking on the door."

Faldo made an encouraging late charge in Singapore to finish six shots behind winner Arjun Atwal.

Improving form

"It's good for me to play under pressure," said Faldo.

"I have found what works at the weekend when I am under pressure and have to keep working on those feelings.

"The more I can groove those and get that little bit more confidence, the better.

"All in all, it was a good week in Singapore because I struggled with the swing, struggled with the workload and especially struggled with the heat.

"(But) I created a lot of chances, and that is the bottom line.

"I would rather have lot of chances and then patiently wait for them to drop."

Faldo's feeling that a return to winning ways is just around the corner is backed by his improving form on the 2002 European Tour.

He has edged closer to victory with each of the four events he has played.

After sharing 26th place in the Asian Open, he tied for 10th at the Johnny Walker Classic and then sixth in the Heineken Classic before his third in Singapore last week.
