![]() | Friday, 22 February, 2002, 21:22 GMT Faxon criticises Monty's attitude ![]() Montgomerie has a chequered history in the US American Ryder Cup player Brad Faxon claims that Colin Montgomerie only has himself to blame for the heckling he receives from spectators in the States. Montgomerie has threatened to boycott future events in the US after being abused by the crowd during his defeat by Scot McCarron at the Accenture Match Play championship. It is not the first time the Scot has been involved in controversy across the Atlantic, he has been targetted ever since losing his temper with fans at the 1995 US Open.
Faxon told BBC Five Live: "I would like to say I am a fan of Colin - and I have had my own share of incidents with him - but I think he brings it on himself. "If he wants to do well here he has to change the way he acts. He needs to look in the mirror and say 'it is me not them'. "I know Scott McCarron and what happened out there and it wasn't something he should have got upset about.
Montgomerie caused consternation Stateside ahead of the 1997 Ryder Cup when he said that Faxon's performance might suffer because he was going through a marriage break-up. And, after his latest American disappointment on Wednesday, he was heard to say that the only one thing worse than losing was staying in America for another day. |
