Faldo issues Ryder Cup warning
Nick Faldo
Faldo senses trouble for the Ryder Cup team
Nick Faldo and Jesper Parnevik fear that the selection process for the European Ryder Cup team could affect their chances at this September's clash against America.

A review of the current selection system is underway but any change will come too late for this year's event.

And Faldo and Parnevik believe that it might prove the downfall of the team.

"I've been talking to Jesper this week," said Faldo from the US Open in America.

"And we both agree that we've been lucky in the past and we don't think we will be this time."

The pair, along with Colin Montgomerie, Sergio Garcia, Bernhard Langer, Paul Lawrie and Miguel Angel Jimenez, will be vying for two wild card places if their rankings stay the same.

All of them are currently out of the automatic Ryder Cup places - awarded to the top 10 players from 45 events.

Only 14 tournaments remain for anyone aiming to break into that elite group and team captain Sam Torrance could be left with a nasty dilemma.

Faldo continued: "Jesper and I can see it coming down to Sam having to pick two out of five."

One of the main concerns about the present selection process is that is does not take into account the growing number of players plying their trade in America.

Torrance recently stated that Parnevik and Garcia would be his two wild cards but the other players have shown some good form recently.

Faldo added: "I've been saying it for a long time that there's a lot of players going to the States now and the system has got to reflect that.

"We should go off the world ranking list and maybe have the qualifying over two years instead of one (as America does). It all needs reviewing."
