Hansen and his famous eyebrows

Hansen's Eyebrows has been chosen by readers as the song to inspire a Rooney-less England to victory in the World Cup.

The song, performed by The Turnstiles featuring MC Jabber, captured nearly a quarter of the 7,000 votes cast in our poll, with ChavnDave's On The Ball finishing second on 19%.

The Lions Roar, by Barry Sullivan and Andy Mudd just pipped The Trophy Boyz' Name On The Cup into third place, although their "Rooney's running on the ball" lyric now seems optimistic at best.

Barrie Barlow, who co-wrote Hansen's Eyebrows, said: "We're thrilled to win this competition. It's been voted for by the people and that means a lot to us. We won the lyrics contest as well so it's a double celebration.

"I'm a big fan of Alan's and the song is very endearing. I got the idea after watching Match of the Day - I couldn't believe the places his eyebrows go!

"We've had nearly 5,000 people accessing the song on Myspace in the last 12 days and the plan now is to get the song into the charts via downloads."

Chav from ChavnDave was equally upbeat, saying: "We're ecstatic to have done so well. Every England song that comes out tends to be a bit too namby-pamby but ours is something all the guys and girls in the pubs can sing along to.

"We did the song in a night - hopefully we can get it released and take it to number one in honour of Wayne Rooney!"

After winning the competition, The Turnstiles will get the chance to watch the England-Sweden World Cup game on a cinema-sized screen with Three Lions legends John Barnes and Matt Le Tissier.

The former England internationals will be at a special Sure Fanzone bar set up in London for the World Cup, which will include smoke machines, strobe lighting and pyrotechnics - not to mention football.
