It's Giles by miles
Mark Richardson and Ashley Giles
Gilo grimaces as he sees Richardson's suit

The England cricket team rubbed salt in New Zealand's wounds when Ashley Giles beat Mark Richardson in a traditional end-of-series running race.

Kiwi opener Richardson - not renowned for his speed between the wickets - always challenges the slowest member of the opposition to a sprint across the outfield.

On this occasion it was Giles - and the Warwickshire spinner saw off his rival to put the tin lid on England's 3-0 series whitewash.

Richardson did his best to put off his opponent by wearing a ridiculous-looking 'speed suit', but Giles was not to be denied a famous victory.

After the race, the England man basked in his success - while trying to deny he really was the tortoise of the squad.

"The five slowest guys all turned Mark down so it was left to the sixth slowest," Giles insisted.

"I won by a head. But then again I have got a big head."

Coming up after the West Indies series, Brian Lara challenges Michael Vaughan to an arm wrestle. Possibly.
