Funny old round-up
BBC Sport Online picks out some of the quirky, offbeat or plain daft stories doing the rounds.

Luton's Owen goal

TV presenter Nick Owen was refused entry to a football club bar that is named after him!

The former breakfast television star went to stroll into the Nick Owen Lounge at Luton Town, but was turned away by bouncers.

They told him the bar was too full to let him in.

And you turned down Nick - how could you?

As Owen walked off, a man in the queue asked the doormen if they knew who they had just sent packing.

When they said no, he replied: "His name is above your head in big letters!"

Owen, whon now works for BBC East Midlands, told The Sun newspaper: "It was a very funny moment."

Probably not the first one he has experienced at Kenilworth Road over the years.

No ordinary Joe

Forget Ronaldo and Raul, Real Madrid's latest star is a 10-year-old boy from England.

Schoolboy Joe Welch was invited for a week's trial at the Bernabeu and he impressed coaching staff so much, they have asked him to come back for three weeks next year.

Joe, from Ashby-De-La-Zouch in Leicestershire, was flown out to Spain after attending a training camp in Leeds, where he was voted the best player by Brazilian legend Jairzinho.

Zidane's place could be under threat

Dad Kevin said: "The coaches told me they wanted Joe back next year for a trial. I couldn't take it in. I thought they were just being kind.

"But they asked again and explained Joe will have three weeks training and playing, and if successful, he will be offered a 12-month contract."

Given Real's indifferent start to the season, the lad could find himself in the starting line-up team before the year's out.
