![]() | Monday, 27 August, 2001, 18:37 GMT 19:37 UK Hoaxster meets match ![]() It seems that super prankster Karl Power may have some competition from abroad. An Italian actor, named Paolo Calabresi managed to get into a top Serie A match by impersonating a VIP on Sunday. Calabresi fooled officials into thinking he was Belgian Jacques Rogge, the newly-elected president of the International Olympics Commission, at Inter Milan's clash against Perugia. He was eventually sussed out when fellow VIPs, already suspicious of his dodgy French accent, asked him questions about the 2006 Winter Games to be staged in Turin. Calabresi struggled to answer his interrogators and his plan was uncovered, leaving the actor to be frogmarched out of the ground by officials. A likely story His cheeky ploy seems very similar to British hoaxster Power, who appeared in disguise in a Manchester United team photo and during England's Test match at Headingley. Power shot to fame in April when, clad in the correct strip, he brazenly walked onto the Olympic Stadium pitch in Munich and stood next to Andy Cole before the Premiership side's Champions League quarter-final. He caused more confusion earlier this month when, dressed in England team kit and regulation helmet, he took to the field for the fourth Ashes Test. Calabresi has also been in action before, passing himself off as a valet to a bogus Prince to get into the Rome derby match last year and as Hollywood actor Nicholas Cage at AC Milan two years ago. | See also: Other top Funny Old Game stories: Links to more Funny Old Game stories are at the foot of the page. | ||
