![]() | Goran's Teletubby secret ![]() BBC Sport Online's Mike Burnett wonders if Goran Ivanisevic is the fifth Teletubby after the Croatian claims to have been inspired by the Children's TV show. Goran Ivanisevic has brought a whole new meaning to the saying "I get by with a little help from my friends". The popular Croat appears to have landed a Wimbledon title with the assistance of four furry beings from another planet. Tinky Winky, Laa Laa, Dipsy and Po provided essential pre-match viewing for the 29-year-old star over the past two weeks. So the question remains - is Goran the fifth Teletubby? Speech patterns The Wimbledon champion certainly fits the bill if you judge him by his nonsensical mutterings in post-match interviews. Like his furry counterparts, the emotional Goran had plenty to say, but only three-year-olds and under could understand the random string of words. Nudity Goran has proved that he does not have time for clothes, ripping off his top at every available opportunity. Is it just coincidence that the Tinky Winky, Laa Laa, Dipsy and Po also favour the 'au naturel' look?
Many fans will have noticed that Goran has spent a lot of time looking skywards with his hands clasped together over the past two weeks. Although the goatee-bearded star claims he was praying to God, perhaps he was in fact looking for that cheeky Teletubby sun with the baby's face on it. Cute-factor Ivanisevic may be a bit skinny for a Teletubby, but he certainly rates highly in the cuteness stakes. Cries of "Ahhh, Goran, bless him!" reverberated across the country on Monday. Career wobbles It is no secret that the Teletubbies' rise in popularity over the last few years has coincided with a fall in fortunes for the Croatian. The Teletubbies' success without him must have had a devastating effect on his tennis. But Monday's victory will make up for all those years of missing out both at Wimbledon and in Teletubby land. Children's icon Of course, the Teletubbies might not be the only children's television characters to inspire the Wimbledon star. No doubt, he took a leaf out of Postman Pat's book by proving that he can deliver. Ivor the Engine may have competition from Ivan-isevic, who proved he has plenty of heart too. Finally, just as children used to marvel on what Mr Ben would change into next, so tennis fans never knew whether 'Good Goran' or 'Bad Goran' would step onto court. |
