2012: ATHLETICS - American sprinter Jeremy Dodson is arrested on suspicion of identity theft, days before he is due to leave for the athletics World Championships in South Korea. Dodson, who was due to compete in the 200m in Daegu, was arrested and released on Wednesday after posting a $10,000 bond.

1959: GOLF - Former Masters champion Mike Weir has had season-ending elbow surgery and will be sidelined for three to six months, the Canadian golfer said in a statement.
