Qatar has revealed it will bid to stage the 2016 Olympics Games, and has vowed to keep bidding until it wins the right to host sport's most prestigious event. The Gulf state has spent �1.3bn creating a sports city, which is hosting the Asian Games this month.
Sheikh Saoud bin Abdul Rahman Al-Thani, secretary general of Qatar's National Olympic Committee, said: "Qatar is 100% committed to this cause.
"I'm confident we will win 2016 but, if not, we will bid until we succeed."
The 2016 Games will be awarded in 2009 and Sheikh Saoud continued: "We have 10 years to go for the 2016 Olympic Games. We have enough time to execute our plans for a great show."
The next Olympic Games will be held in Beijing in 2008, with London staging the 2012 event.
