Cricket provides the biggest talking point, particularly in the broadsheets.

The Independent laments a fine century by South African batsman Gary Kirsten, which restored his side after a brilliant start to day one of the fourth Test by England's bowlers.

And The Guardian pays special tribute to home paceman Martin Bicknell, who took two big wickets on his return to Test cricket after an absence of 10 years.

The Daily Star sticks to football, and to Chelsea's broad wanderings around the world in search of transfer targets.

It believes that Roman Abramovich's latest fancy - Inter Milan striker Hernan Crespo - may now not sign for the Blues, after a hitch in negotiations.

The Daily Express is not so sure, however, claiming that Chelsea bigwigs have entertained their Italian peers for a second straight evening, upping their bid by 5m to 18m in the process.

Abramovich's dedication to football is scutinised in The Sun, which reveals that the Russian has been known to fly for nine hours just to watch TV highlights.
