The top stories from the UK press
With a busy weekend to review and Wimbledon to look forward to, some familiar faces are fighting for space on the back pages.

England's triumphant rugby players and cricketers get plenty of attention and, of course, the first bout of Henmania takes hold.

But the arresting sight of Vitali Klitschko's battered and bloodied face after his defeat to Lennox Lewis grabs the attention.

Whatever the state of the Ukrainian's left eye, the fact that he looked capable of upsetting Lewis before the fight was stopped has not escaped anyone's notice.

"Lewis sliding on throne of blood" is the dramatic conclusion of the Daily Telegraph.

And the Daily Star describes Saturday night as "one of the least impressive Lewis performances of his career".

While the reaction to Britain's world heavyweight champion is muted, to say the least, a group of world champion wannabes are practically being crowned in some quarters.

"Just champion" is how the Daily Express describes England's rugby union victory over Australia.

The Daily Mail warns, however, that coach Clive Woodward is still prepared to "wield the axe" ahead of the World Cup.

More good news in The Guardian, which carries a picture of Marcus Trescothick celebrating England's one-day series win over Pakistan.

The Somerset batsman's 108 not out had the "Marc of genius", according to The Sun.

But, on day one of Wimbledon, there is plenty of the usual speculation on whether Tim Henman can finally take the title.

If he does not do it this year he may have to wait a while with several papers reporting that leading players could boycott next year's Grand Slams as they demand more money.

"Wimbledon opens under spectre of boycott next year," says The Independent.
