Randall celebrates winning Commonwealth gold |
Scotland's Commonwealth judo champion Graeme Randall has been awarded the MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List. The 1999 world champion added the Commonwealth gold to his impressive array of medals at last summer's Games in Manchester, beating England's Thomas Cousins in the under 81kg category.
He became the first Scot ever to win a world judo title with his victory in 1999.
Randall has also represented Great Britain twice at the Olympic Games in 1996 and 2000, when he surprisingly lost in the last 16.
The Scot took up judo at the age of 13 and by 15 he was awarded his black belt.
He won a bronze at the 1994 world junior championships, the first of many top-class displays at international level.
