Liverpool's extra-time victory over the Blades came too late to make the first editions, but the acrimony at Anfield was well-documented.

The Daily Mail reports an "angry confrontation" in the first half between Liverpool assistant boss Phil Thompson and Sheffield midfielder Michael Brown.

Full-time has yet to be blown on several ongoing transfers sagas, with the papers full again of Newcastle's interest in Jonathan Woodgate.

If the Leeds defender does head for Tyneside he could be lining up alongside Brazilian midfielder Kleberson, says the Guardian.

Another World Cup winner who could be Premiership-bound is goalkeeper Marcos - a 2.3m target for Arsenal, according to The Sun.

The Times reckons his arrival "may signal the end" for David Seaman.

But that's what the papers said when the Gunners signed Alex Manninger and then Richard Wright. Both have since departed.

Away from football, the Daily Telegraph saddles up its favourite hobby horse as "a prominent member of the IOC" comes out in favour of a London Olympic bid.

And several papers enjoy a spot of schaudenfreude at Michael Schumacher's expense after the F1 world champion pranged his Ferrari on the first lap of practice in Spain.
