Steven Gerrard aims to continue his England career for the foreseeable future, despite the team's unsuccessful World Cup campaign.

The Liverpool midfielder, who turned 30 in May, pledged to "make amends" for the listless displays in South Africa.

England bowed out in the second round after a 4-1 defeat by Germany, which Gerrard admitted was "such a low."

He told Liverpool's website: "There is no way I want the disappointment of the Germany game to be my last."

Gerrard, who captained England at the World Cup after Rio Ferdinand was ruled out by injury, is one of a cluster of players dubbed the "Golden Generation" who have failed to live up to their billing at major tournaments for England.

And Fabio Capello has admitted he wants to bring in some fresh blood to give the the team "new energy" after securing his own future as team manager.

That statement raised doubts about the future of several players who will the wrong side of 30 by the time Euro 2012 comes around, but Gerrard insisted he was ready to fight for his place.

He said: "I expect there to be a lot of changes to the squad and it is up to the manager whether I am selected, but I am going to continue to make myself available for my country.

"I am determined to do as much as I can to make amends for what happened [in the World Cup]."

Gerrard's Liverpool team-mate Jamie Carragher, who came out of international retirement to play in South Africa, has already announced that he will not play for England again.
