Chile's players celebrate their impressive win

Chile coach Marcelo Bielsa hopes his side's missed chances in their 1-0 win over Honduras do not prove costly.

Jean Beausejour's first-half winner secured Chile's first World Cup victory since 1962, but they failed to add to that goal despite some slick football.

Bielsa admitted: "You can't foresee what will happen, but if the group is decided on goal difference then we will rue the chances we missed.

"We could have scored more goals and we were on top."

The Chileans produced arguably the most exciting action of the tournament in South Africa so far, and created a host of excellent opportunities.

But they missed the firepower of striker Humberto Suazo, who missed the game because of injury.

Bielsa is hoping to lead Chile to the next phase of the tournament, having failed to make it beyond the group stage as Argentina boss in 2002.

"Eight years have gone by and they are totally different experiences. I'm older, that's the only change in me since then," he insisted.

"We'll try to win the next game because the objective is to pass to the next round and start writing new records."
