Greece boss Otto Rehhagel has demanded a huge improvement from his side after their 2-0 defeat by South Korea in the opening Group B World Cup fixture.

The 2004 European champions had only three shots on target and struggled to contain an impressive South Korea side.

"We really have to get our act together," said German Rehhagel. "We've got to improve a couple of things and be brave and courageous enough.

"The Koreans played very well, they used their chances, we didn't."

Greece conceded a goal within seven minutes of kick-off in Port Elizabeth when Kostantinos Katsouranis inadvertently flicked on a free-kick at the near post into the path of Lee Jung-soo, who volleyed home from close range.

And Rehhagel was angered by the lackadaisical defending which allowed the onrushing centre-back the opportunity to capitalise at the back post.

"You've got 18 people in the penalty area and there is a hard hit cross, anything can happen if the defender doesn't head away the ball properly," said the 71-year-old.

"I knew the Koreans would be very fast, very swift and they would run the extra mile to get the ball. It was a well deserved win for South Korea.

"We'll go back to Durban now and analyse what went wrong factually and soberly and try and improve for our next game (against Nigeria)."

Midfielder Alexandros Tziolis concurred with his manager's assessment.

"I think it was a fair result. We didn't play well," said Tziolis, who plays for Italian club Siena.

"We have very few options. There's no other option than to go all out."
