Tottenham's Ledley King is confident he can play in every England game at the World Cup in South Africa if he is asked to by coach Fabio Capello. A knee complaint has dogged King, 29, throughout his career, which he copes with by restricting his training regime to swimming and gym work between games. "Over a short period I definitely can do it," the defender said when he was asked if he could play in every match. "With the medical team we have here and the right recovery programme, why not?" On Monday, King won his 20th England cap when he played for the national team for the first time in nearly three years in the 3-1 win against Mexico at Wembley, marking his return by putting Capello's side in front.  | 606: DEBATE |
"Towards the end of the season I managed to played three games in a week for Spurs so I do know that I can do it," added King. His chances of being selected for Capello's squad for South Africa, which will be trimmed down to 23 players by 1 June, have been boosted because of doubts over the fitness of first-choice central defender Rio Ferdinand of Manchester United, as well as the absence of the injured Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott and United's Wes Brown. "The manager is prepared to trust me," said King. "He has been brilliant. He said 'do what you do at Tottenham' and the medical team here have done that with me."
