Netherlands 3-2 Uruguay: Uruguay's 3.3m inhabitants, including this Montevideo fruit and veg seller, have only one thing on their minds on Tuesday: their football team's first World Cup semi-final since 1970
La Celeste are up against the Netherlands, whose fans create a riot of colour in Cape Town's fan zone ahead of the game at the city's Green Point Stadium
Uruguay fans are hardly the shy and retiring type, but their team begin as underdogs against the Dutch, who have won all their games so far in South Africa
Uruguay must do without striker Luis Suarez, suspended following his controversial handball in the quarter-final against Ghana, but his efforts are not forgotten
In Suarez's absence, more responsibility falls on striker Diego Forlan's shoulders and the former Manchester United striker also captains the side
But Forlan struggles to get into the game in the early stages, and the Netherlands fashion the first chance, Dirk Kuyt shooting narrowly over after four minutes
And the Dutch take the lead in spectacular style after 18 minutes, Giovanni van Bronckhorst picking up the ball 35 yards out and smashing a left-foot screamer into the top corner
Dutch skipper Van Bronckhorst celebrates his sixth international goal, which makes him the 10th oldest scorer at a World Cup at 35 years and 151 days
As Uruguay begin to make their presence felt in Cape Town, Martin Caceres tries a defensive overhead kick - but connects only with Demy de Zeeuw's mouth
Five minutes before half-time, Uruguay are level, Diego Forlan scoring his fourth goal in South Africa with a swerving shot which deceives Netherlands keeper Maarten Stekelenburg
A stunned Stekelenburg has to be helped back to his feet by captain Van Bronckhorst after conceding his fourth goal of the World Cup and at half-time it's 1-1
Netherlands are much brighter in the second half and take the lead on 70 minutes. Wesley Sneijder's low shot is deflected, and Robin van Persie - who is only just onside - jumps over it as it sneaks into the corner
Uruguay complain to the referee that Van Persie was offside, but there is nothing they can do about the Netherlands' third goal, Arjen Robben powering in a header from Dirk Kuyt's cross
Frustration for Forlan, who is substituted with six minutes remaining. He watches Maxi Pereira score a superb injury-time goal for his side, but it's slim consolation
After a tense last few minutes, the Dutch, coached by Bert van Marwijk, can finally celebrate their first World Cup final appearance since 1978
And the celebrations can begin in Amsterdam and across the Netherlands where fans have been on tenterhooks. Their side will face Spain or Germany - in a repeat of the 1974 final - on Sunday
