Tunisia defender Hatem Trabelsi has announced his retirement from international football. His decision to quit the national team follows their exit from the World Cup on Friday after their 1-0 defeat to Ukraine.
Trabelsi wants to focus on his club career and family, the Tunisian Football federation said on Saturday.
The 29-year-old is expected to move from Ajax Amsterdam to a new club this season.
Trabelsi has been a mainstay of the Tunisian team since his debut in 1998.
He played in three World Cups and helped Tunisia win the African Cup of Nations in 2004.
According to the federation, he won 61 caps and scored one goal.
The 29-year-old defender wore Tunisian colours for the last time on Friday, which saw the Carthage Eagles fail for the fourth time to advance to the second round at the World Cup.
Trabelsi added flair to a workmanlike team, attacking with skill and pace from his position at right back, though critics have accused him of lacking commitment.
His contract with Dutch powerhouse Ajax ends this month and Trabelsi reportedly is seeking a move to an English or Italian club.
