Frei sealed a deserved victory for Switzerland in Hanover |
Alexander Frei has insisted the referee was right to allow the controversial late goal that helped Switzerland into the last 16 phase of the World Cup. Frei benefited when referee Horacio Elizondo overruled an offside flag to allow him to stroll through and net the Swiss' second against South Korea.
The ball had ricocheted off a Korean defender, and Frei said: "It was right.
"The ball was deflected to me by one of the Koreans. It was one of those 50-50 things but the luck was with us."

The Rennes forward's 77th-minute strike added to Phillippe Senderos' first-half header in a hard-fought victory.
And the 25-year-old was in buoyant mood after the match, saying: "We played well over all of our three games, didn't concede any goals and scored four. Now we'll try to conquer the world!"
However, he admitted a victory over Ukraine in their second round match on Monday would surpass the team's wildest expectations.
"We're proud to be in the top 16 in the world. The team's goal has been achieved. Everything else from here is extra."
Swiss coach Kobi Kohn added: "It was a very intense match. South Korea are a good team and we were a bit lucky at times, but we deserved the win I think overall."
