Striker Fernando Morientes has been left out of Spain's World Cup squad. The Liverpool forward had been named in his country's provisional squad but was one of four players cut by coach Luis Aragones in the 23-man selection.
Defenders Joan Capdevila of Deportivo La Coruna and Villarreal's Javi Venta also missed out along with Valencia midfielder Ruben Baraja.
English-based Xabi Alonso, Jose Reyes, Cesc Fabregas, Asier Del Horno, Luis Garcia and Jose Reina were included.
Reports suggest Aragones made a late choice to include an extra central defender, Carlos Marchena, at the expense of former Real Madrid striker Morientes.
"I have chosen players who can play in a system rather than if any particular player is on form," said Aragones.
"I know there are good players who have been left out but I have chosen players on form and on the way they play."
