Vucinic plays his club football with Lecce in Italy |
Serbia and Montenegro striker Mirko Vucinic is out of the World Cup after damaging knee ligaments. "We will name a replacement in the next few days," said coach Ilija Petkovic. "We'll call up a player we need as we have five fit strikers at the moment."
The striker picked up the injury in an under-21 European Championship match against Germany on Tuesday.
Vucinic, 22, who has won three full caps, was one of only two Montenegrin players in his team's World Cup squad.
Initially expected to be an understudy to Mateja Kezman at the tournament, Vucinic burst on to the scene in 2005-06 with 19 goals for Italian club Lecce.
Serbia and Montenegro will play at the tournament as a unified team.
But it will be their last time as a combined side after Montenegro voted for independence on Sunday.
