Paraguay coach Anibal Ruiz said the 2-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago was important for the future of football in the South American country. He said: "This victory doesn't mean much in the way of this World Cup, but it does give the young players, who are our future, something to build on.
"Paraguay are a better team than our results suggest, but it takes time for young players to adjust."
Paraguay finished third in Group B after losing 1-0 to England and Sweden.
And Uruguayan Ruiz, who is not sure whether he will now keep his job, said Paraguay should look at the positives of the tournament.
"We suffered two very tough, one-goal losses to Sweden and England," he said.
"And we have qualified for this tournament when other countries such as Chile, Colombia and Uruguay have not. "
