Van der Vaart faces an anxious wait ahead of the World Cup |
Holland have suffered an injury setback after midfielder Rafael van der Vaart was forced to pull out of training with an injured ankle. The 23-year-old was forced on to the sidelines after being struck by a ball - on the same ankle that has plagued him during the 2005-2006 campaign.
The Hamburg star recently underwent an operation to remove a screw from the injured joint.
Head coach Marco van Basten said: "The new injury is on a different spot."
However, he added: "It is clear though that the joint is not comfortable yet. It is good he stopped the training immediately. We must now wait and see how serious it exactly is."
