Young had been a doubt because of his ankle complaint |
Charlton defender Luke Young has withdrawn from the standby list for England's World Cup squad because of an ankle injury. Young picked up the injury in April, but had been in Portugal with the squad for the last week and joined full training for the first time on Friday.
But after holding discussions with coach Sven-Goran Eriksson, Young opted to withdraw from the standby list.
Eriksson is deciding whether to call up a replacement for the 26-year-old.
Young made his England debut as a substitute against the United States during England's tour there a year ago.
He has five international caps - against Wales, Northern Ireland, Austria, Poland and Argentina.
