Costa Rica coach Alexandre Guimaraes blamed a series of silly mistakes for his side's early World Cup exit. Guimaraes, whose side leave pointless after a 2-1 defeat by Poland, said: "We paid dearly for our distractions. They cost us in all three matches."
"Today, the goals came because of our carelessness at set plays."
Skipper Luis Marin added: "The team played well but Poland took advantage of their corner kicks and their physical strength."
Ronald Gomez gave Costa Rica the lead but Poland hit back to grab the points and Marin could not hide his dismay.
"We had enough chances and it's disappointing to leave without a win," Marin said.
"The team played fairly well but Poland took advantage of their corner kicks and their physical strength.
"We fought right to the end, though, and are going home with a clear conscience."
