Vassell scored on his England debut against Holland |
Manchester City's Darius Vassell would delay a hernia operation in order to be a part of Sven-Goran Eriksson's England squad for the World Cup this summer. The 25-year-old striker requires surgery and was expected to spend the close season recovering.
He told the Sunday Mirror: "I have not lost hope of playing for England again and if the call came for the World Cup I would put off the operation and go.
"I would put myself on the line if Mr Eriksson wanted me in Germany."
Vassell has not featured for England since the Euro 2004 quarter-final defeat by Portugal in which he missed a spot-kick in the penalty shoot-out.
And he added: "At the moment it seems that I'm not in Mr Eriksson's thoughts.
"But if England happened I could put off the surgery - unless I broke down completely."
