The pair have been selected along with 70 other officials, 36 referees and 36 assistant referees, who will take part in the tournament. Dallas is only the second Scottish official to have been selected for two World Cup finals, having been involved in France '98. "Being there in France in 1998 was fantastic and this will be another brilliant experience," said Dallas. "It is a great honour to be selected again for the World Cup finals because they are the highlight of anyone's career." Dallas gained particular praise at the 1998 event for his handling of the quarter-final between Italy and the hosts.
Arsenal striker Thierry Henry had to be held back from confronting the Hertfordshire official after the final whistle. Other names to make the referees list include the widely recognised Pierluigi Collina and Denmark's Kim Nielson, who sent off David Beckham at France '98. At a seminar before the event, referees will be issued with directives by FIFA aimed at clamping down on diving, excessive use of force and the outlawed tackle from behind. |
